"SAFER has been working with the leaders of several organizations on plans for a statewide initiative in Colorado, and we will soon introduce a measure that would legalize marijuana and regulate it in a manner similar to alcohol," Tvert said. "Over the past five years we have built a large coalition of organizations, elected officials, and citizens across the state, and now that the 2010 election is over, we are moving full-steam ahead with a plan to organize, mobilize, and energize our coalition and potential voters across Colorado."

"To do it we need to avoid the politics and bickering that happened with the Prop 19 campaign, and understand the big picture and what passage of legalization could do towards changing the War on Drugs," Martin told us.

I can't see how they could possibly do that but I wish them the very best of luck!

Good, I hope it comes up on the ballot & I hope it passes. I don't smoke myself (don't even like the smell of it), but I don't care if others do, it is not as bad as alcohol (which I myself enjoy on occasion). I have seen it help many of the people I know & vets I work with, it is a lot less harmful than many of the prescribed medications the drug companies push on people every day.

I followed Mason's lead in 2005 (http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-11-03-pot_x.htm) when we legalized recreational pot in the City and County of Denver and possibly I may folow his down to earth logic again for a Colorful Cannabis Colorado in 2012. I am sure that S.A.F.E.R. will be one of the contenders in 2012 However I am a "Marijuana Mercenary" and I will align myself to who I think has the best amendment to give to "the people" to decide upon. And no Jose, being a "Marijuana Mercenary" doesn't mean that I am coming across the border to clean house nor does it mean that I kill for weed. It just means that I am a soldier in the anti-war on drugs who is willing and able to stand shoulder to shoulder with any ganja agenda as long as we know the true end of the day. "The re-legalization of commercial (hemp), medical, and recreational cannabis with the self determination to grow marijuana your own untaxed just like making homebrew or wine."

Also yesterday the Cannabis Therapy Institute launched Legalize 2012 in Boulder (http://www.legalize2012.com/).

That's two in the running here in the land of 300 sunshine days a year.

So it appears that we might have a smogasbord of cannabis caveat before the Colorado primary election in 2012. Commercial (hemp), Medical, and Recreational cannabis oh my...!!! It's also going to be a game of logistics as who will get the verifable voter signatures first. Fantasy vs Logic.

Coming out of the starting gate it appears that Colorado has actually already stepped out and is already in the running for 2012. We lost in 2006 with Amendment 44 (http://www.saferchoice.org/safercolorado06/). Don't intend on losing in 2012.

Yes, the race is on...looks like a cannabis comtemplation crouching just below the horizon for Colorado and a chance for California to lick it's wounds, gather it's wits, and go for the gusto. It not a matter of who anymore but when...!!!

Glad to be here, too! I think more focus need to be put on the industrial uses of the plant, in order to sell the idea to those who are not users on a medicinal or recreational level. Gosh the JOBS that can be created.... making bio-fuels, building materials, paper, clothing, and the seed just happens to be one of the most nutritious substances on the planet.

Bring it on!!!

I definitely agree!

(Actually, IMO, those are two separate issues-- one is legalizing the type of Hemp that has the THC-- that can get people high-- the other is legalizing cultivation of the type that doesn't have the drug-- currently its still illegal to grow that).

But, strangely, it is not illegal to possess that type of hemp-- or to possess products (such as garments) made of it.
