"Crayons have been a favorite of children for over a hundred years. Ever since the first Crayola® crayons were introduced back in 1903, children around the globe have been making the world around them come alive through their pictures and drawings. America's most popular crayon color is one of Crayola's original colors, the color blue.

Crayola® alone has around 15 different shades of blue, not including the shades of blue they have retired over the years. There are probably very few people in the world who haven’t used a blue crayon or blue pencil at least once in their lifetime.

Great photos and article, Krishna!

In the group of pics, my eyes went straight towards the green "Piano concerto." I love all the earth colors, including blue, but green is my favorite.

Why don't you add a poll if it's not too late?

I've seen pics of artwork and jewelry made of crayons and colored pencils. I found this one and seeded it.

Pencil Crayon Jewelry (scroll down past the few ads.)

You're a source of inspiration, Krishna! ;-)

Actually that's a great idea-- I hadn't thought of it!

Oh-- I just realized-- this is a seed and not an original article-- you can't put polls on seeds. (It would be interesting to write an article about it, but I don't do articles, only seeds-- so I guess people can mention their favourite colour in the comments instead.)

It would be interesting to see what peoples' favourite colours are. Also-- why (if they do have a reason).

I've always liked green but didn't know why as a toddler. Now I know that it represents growth. I've always preferred to be around trees, plants, etc. rather than flowers. I always look for "stuff" on the ground, like frogs (being a frog fanatic), lizards, snakes, etc.

What's your favorite color, Krishna? Maybe I overlooked it...no, I didn't see you mentioning it.

Yes, in many spiritual approaches green represents growth. Also abundance (money)-- and in some systems it, along with pink, are considered to be heart colours. Also associated with calm and balanced emotions.

In TCM ("traditional Chinese medicine') it is the Wood element, which is associated with the TCM organ of the liver.

(Each organ has an associated emotion-- for the Liveer its anger. And, since things in the east are often associated by polarities (i.e. opposites are not considered to be different) it therefore addresses , of course, not only issues of anger-- but also of th opposite-- which I suppose might be calm and tranquility.

I actually don't have any single one-- it varies over time. (perhaps not surprising since one of the dominent energies in my astrological chart is Gemini-- and you know how they are! :-)

I can see how the color green could have emotions tied to it, especially anger. You know the "green-eyed monster" --so funny afterwards. But it's definitely calming too.

No, I don't know how Geminis are. I was expecting you to list purple, pink (rose), gold...I'm sure your chakras are wide-open but balanced...most of the time. ;-)

No, I don't know how Geminis are.

Gemini is a "double sign" ("The Twins"--Castor and Pollux)-- so people say that Geminis like to have two of everything.

Actually tends to be true in many cases, although what I have found is that actually it would be more accurate to say that they like to have two or more of things!

Geminis like variety...

Gemini...Ok.

Gemini persons tend to be restless, intellectual folks. They are mental people by nature, and have a dynamic spirit that is intellectually impressionable and inspired by pure ideas. This dynamism allows them to default to a more positive mental state. They are able to, and enjoy synthesizing bits of information to get a good idea of what's going on. This may however come at the expense of deeper understanding of things or verifying their integrity all the way through.

LOL.

That explains a lot--the Gemini traits.

Even though I'm a Virgo, I've always wanted more than one or two spouses. One can be one too many at times though. I wonder which sign is found mostly in the world of polygamy?

Getting back to colors...I found this:

Colors in the horoscope

Maybe dmlane could write an article regarding colors and astrology?

LOL.

Interestingly, Virgos are also often quite "mental". However, its a different energy. Virgos often tend to be very analytical. They gather information, and then analyze it. By comparison, Geminis tend to just "collect information".

In the 'real world' this often manifests as Gemijnis constantly gathering information-- but often not doing much with it. (Although they may mention it in a conversation much later on). Its sort of like a bee gathering pollen-- the flit from flower to flower...(Virgos often find thuis annoying...they like to stick with some piece of infio for a bit lionger..analyze it , etc).

Virgos find a piece of information and analyze, and they do usually look for deeper significance...

(Although they are both somewhat mental, they are not very compatable...their aspect is the "square"-- not really harmonious-- by elements, earth and air, not harmonious).

I'm one day from being a Libra, so that probably makes up for the so called "stick in the mud" Virgo. We could probably teach you Geminis a few tricks--not that Virgos would waste their time. ;-)

Oh, from what I've continued to read, Geminis should wear yellow. And look at your avatar, you little devil!

In the Tarot card the Magician, which is about (among other things) using mental powers to manifest results in the physical world, one of the colours is yellow-- the conscious mind. And red and white also have profound symbolism in the creative process-- the "mental alchemy' as it were-- all related to the Kabbalah, Astrology, and other metaphysical systems as well (but "you don't have to know that.")

but "you don't have to know that.")

Sometimes I think we all put too much emphasis on "what does it mean?" People like certain colors at certain times of the day, month year, etc. Maybe people wear blue underwear on Mon. just because it's a Monday, and purple for Fridays. (I expect you to have a link to that because they made panties at one time with the days of the week embroidered on them.)

I don't know if anyone absolutely hates a color so much that they have a phobia of it.

~I grabbed this from about.com

Culture of Blue:
In many diverse cultures blue is significant in religious beliefs, brings peace, or is believed to keep the bad spirits away.

Blue conveys importance and confidence without being somber or sinister, hence the blue power suit of the corporate world and the blue uniforms of police officers. Long considered a corporate color, blue, especially darker blue, is associated with intelligence, stability, unity, and conservatism.

Thanks-- interesting!

I've heard about the association with peace and tranquilty.

And there was a recent seed about people in parts of the South painting their porches blue I believe?

Apparently there is a slightly different energy to dark blues (like navy-- and that is often associated with authority figures, such as police.

In astrology, blue in general is often associated with Pisces...and interestingly with Taurus. Dark blue is often associated with Sagittarius.

You have a strongly aspected Neptune in your natal chart ("horoscope"). This would tend to give you Piscean energy at times. (might make you like a Pisces at times-- very intuitive-- possibly sometimes slightly psychic--perhaps spiritual)

Actually, my feeling is that geminis like many colours and preferences shift.

Actually, I think that goes for most signs. All signs like some sort of variety in their lives. All people (which includes all signs) go through different shifts in emotion.

I really think some people place too much importance on subject things like astrology. People are people first.

And as far as colors; back in the day, blue was for boys and pink was for girls. Now we know how ridiculous that was. That proves my point--labels don't do anything except stereotype and separate us.

true-- but more so for Geminis.

And less so for fixed signs like Taurus.

-labels don't do anything except stereotype and separate us.

Depends on how you use them...

I guess you could consider them a form of "generalization". Making generalizations can inhibit critical thinking and accurate thinking, but if used properly it can be OK-- even helpful.

Well, you would have studied more about Geminis than any other sign, so you might see things that way.

What I always find amazing is that you seed so many great articles , but you rarely include yourself in them, such as coming up with a favorite color-- at least for today.

Maybe you like " clear" such as plastic, or mirrors and reflections in pools, etc.?

But not one defining color for a few days out of one week out of a year out of a decade...?

Would you see that as too limiting?

I suppose you don't have a favorite ice cream flavor...oh, you don't like ice cream? ;-)

I am being perfectly honest about my colour preferences-- I like different ones at different times.

In terms of other personal data, I do not reveal too much as there are a few ( a really small number, but still) really, really nasty weirdos here...

But you can't pick a color within the next hr.?

OK, let's say for the sake of argument that you like blue--at times.

What sort of blue are you feeling now? I'm feeling a navy blue--with another shade of blue coming on--for me.

Have you ever seen shades of blue (or other colors) and you want to cry...because you feel "blue"?

I feel like crying now--because you won't pick up a color.

Seriously, icy blue feels a little cold and distant, which saddens me.

Like most people, I've noticed the Christmas lights. I realized that I love to see blues one, all by themselves. And you know, there's something sensual and romantic about seeing them.

Maybe I should get a blue lamp light for the bedroom. I'll go there before Krishna's dirty mind does...a "blue-light special."
